weddingsatwork.com is a wedding resource for filipinos. we’ve heard about it during the initial part of our wedding preparations and used to visit their site from time to time. back then we’d just go directly to their wedding suppliers directory and then check each suppliers website (this was during the time we were researching about photographers). actually, hindi naman lahat ng nasa directory dahil pagka-dami-dami nun… usually those with ads lang ang ni-check namin. we also signed up for their egroup but somehow parang walang nangyari dun sa pag-signup namin. so we tried again… then again… then again… at ala pa din. we then decided to email the weddings@work facilitator just to inquire what has happened to our application. yun pala, their messages kept bouncing because our office email kept filtering their emails. suspected spam? anyway, yung email naman ng facilitator mismo nakalusot so a few email exchanges after (may mga questions na kelangan fillup-an) then we became w@wies! august 7 to be exact. 🙂
what are the perks of being a w@wie?
- members get to enter and participate (although this is an option lurkers refuse to take. 😆) in the very, very active community board wherein anything and everything about weddings are discussed, scrutinized and what have you. how active? on the average, there are about 100 messages posted per day… average pa lang yan, ha. wondering how to get to a certain venue? post it at the board. wanting to know when’s the next bridal fair? post it at the board. having problems with your preparations? post it. need advise on a supplier? post it. kahit anong topic, just post it and more often than not, someone will react. the great thing about this community is its exclusivity for non-suppliers therefore w@wies can comment about suppliers as freely as they want. real people, actual experiences. ok, dba? careful rin lang dapat ang members whom and what messages to believe kasi may mga biased members who promote their own suppliers in every opportunity they can.
- w@w tags. several suppliers honor the w@w tags thereby giving them freebies and/or discounts.
- w@w parties… and/or EBs. food, fun and lots of freebies. 🙂
just join w@w (no signup fee. no annual fee. 😀) and you get all of these. not bad, dba? in ka pa sa mga kwento sa wedding industry. 🙂
.
bonding with w@wies and supplier friends
annually, w@w holds its wedding supplier of the year awards show coinciding with its Christmas party. nadidinig-dinig ko lang at nababasa-basa lang sa community ito kasi alam ko by invitation only yung event na to. hindi ata pwede mga lurker. 😉 pero this year, w@w (c/o oh john & benz rana… john happens to be the brother of fol) changed things a bit by:
- opening the party to ALL w@wies… active man o lurker. still single or already married. old member or new member. it doesn’t matter. basta w@wie ka, pwede ka.
- letting the w@wies invite suppliers and not w@w themselves inviting the suppliers. this worked to w@w’s advantage kasi nahihiya daw mga suppliers pumunta kung w@w mismo ang nag-i-invite. at least kung w@wie daw, mas mataas probability na sumama. w@w encourage w@wies to invite 1 supplier… we invited 4. 🙂 pwede naman daw, eh. 🙂
we thought, above anything else, this would be a great time to bond with our suppliers and treat them to a nice time outside of their work. kaya invite naman agad namin ang aming supplier friends, bob, lanie, kaye and, of course, fol (na feeling namin d na kelangan i-invite kasi kapatid naman nya nag-organize ng party pero invite pa din namin nonetheless. 😆). our suppliers were mostly surprised yet enthusiastic about our invite. hindi naman kasi sila ganun ka-sikat sa w@w. we kept on inviting them up to the very minute that we were there at the party already. sayang lang at bob and lanie couldn’t make it. si bob kasi ingress nila sa megamall nun for a bridal fair the following weekend. si lanie naman nasa abs-cbn pa at nag-ma-makeup ng mga artista para sa shooting. sayang.
coral tree at fernwood garden was the venue for the party. we have heard a lot about fernwood but we’ve never been there kaya naman added incentive yun sa amin to attend the party. 🙂 syempre print pa kami mapa kasi malay ba namin kung pano pumunta dun. kaya immediately after work, sakay agad ng shuttle pa-magallanes… lipat ng mrt pa-gma station… then taxi na lang from there. all the while we were conversing with kaye thru txt about the party. meron kasi syang event nun sa gazebo royale kaya susunod na lang daw sya. katuwa pa nga kaye kasi nahiya pa magtanong dahil d din nya alam pano pumunta ng fernwood. 😀).
*sigh*).
bumalik kami taas para kausapin c fol… at tamang-tama naman dahil kakatapos lang nya makipag-usap dun sa kausap nya noong dumating kami. syempre, daldalan blues agad. kasama din nya c lito, ang kanyang lightsman/driver. kaso wala ang rest of the team dahil… hindi na-reply-an ni fol ang text nila. sabi nga ni fol, “kasi kasalanan ko.” 😀 comedy talaga photographer namin. 🙂 nalaman namin na pina-pa-print na daw ang artbook ng prenups namin (ang blis!). then hinihingi na nya ang music na gagamitin sa moving pictures ng prenups namin (na ni-se-send na namin kaso nag-bo-bounce kasi ang laki ng file.). nag-kwen2 din c fol about a client na nag-book sa kanila just a week before for a wedding in december (hindi naman late maghanap ng photographer yun, no? 😀 buti na lang libre pa c fol.). ni-share din ni fol na bday ni leslie, fol’s wife, the following day at talagang hindi sya nagpapa-book during that day. hindi lang comedian… sweet din pala photographer namin. 🙂 after a few more stories and a lot more laughs, we decided to go back down kasi gutom na kami. 😀
(referring to the other couple on our table.” kasi parehas daw kami nag-pray. spy ang fiancee ko, no? 🙂
while eating… nag-start na ang main program. raffle muna. aba, nanalo agad yung couple opposite us (peejay & jon, btw). nahihiya pa nga cla kunin prize pero eventually, pumunta din sa harap c jon. tapos a few names later… kami naman ang nanalo! 😀 walang hiya-hiya. punta agad ako para i-claim ang prize. sayang din yun, ha. simple lang naman prize namin: party poppers for them… bubbles for us. magagamit din sa kasal. 🙂
tuloy ang pagkain namin. a little while later, napansin namin c karl (of fotogra weddings by karl & mimi). nilapitan ko… dinaldal ng konti… at nagpakuha ng pictures. 🙂

kararating lang nina karl noong nilapitan ko sya kaya naman ang 3 of the first 4 pictures nya sa kanyang camera are these pictures… in this order. 🙂 you can see more of w@w party pictures at http://gallery.fotogra.ph/wawparty2006
speaking of karl & mimi… we forgot to write in our previous blogs that they were one of the first photographers we considered because not only do we get a discounted rate (ka-batch ko sa pisay si karl (or lemlem to us), eh) but they do produce real and crisp pictures. kaso nga lang, as early as july, fully-booked na agad sila for all saturdays of january. ganun sila ka-in-demand. 🙂
after a few minutes, jason magbanua took the stage (oo, jason the videographer, eh nag-e-emcee din. ako naman nag-e-emcee na gustong maging videographer. 😆) and started the w@w supplier of the year program.
w@w’s top 10 (11 for 2006)
every year, the top 10 wedding suppliers are chosen thru a simple poll participated by w@wies. the mechanics are really simple, each w@wie is given a chance to nominate up to 5 suppliers. then after the polling period, all nominations are tabulated and the top 10 suppliers with the most nominations become finalists. no categories. caterer vs photographer vs coordinator… etc. in other words, palakasan sa w@wies. 😆
w@w supplier of the year finalists for year 2006
- paul vincent of paul vincent photography (photo): a relative newbie but is very, very popular to w@wies because of his relatively lower rates (but i imagine this will not stay low now that he is nominated. ganun kasi ang trend). according to w@wies, very friendly and great teamwork with his wife ivy (his backup photographer). he tends to manipulate and edit his photos though and is really good at it.
- karl & mimi of fotogra weddings (photo): aforementioned batchmate and his gf (nope. hindi pa sila kasal… ata. ewan ko ba. 😀). they were featured in wedding essentials magazine as the photographers to watch for. despite their above-average price tag, they were still nominated for supplier of the year. magaling naman kasi talaga.
- john mateos ong of imagine nation (photo): another photographer we considered for a while. he has developed his own studio (imagine nation) composed of his backup photographers. apparently, he likes sharing his skills to others. he is a Christian, btw.
- nelwin uy of nelwin uy photography (photo): met them at the theme weddings bridal fair at rockwell. back then, their work didn’t register much to us. lately though their popularity has been increasing amongst w@wies that’s why we took another look at their works (just to see why their getting popular). yun pala he has average rates and, like paul vincent, friendly at mahilig mag-manipulate/edit ng photos.
- threelogy (video): the most popular videographer for w@wies (one way or another… 😀), so popular that they have been nominated to be w@w supplier of the year for 3 straight years. they are the only videographer that offers 3-cam coverage as part of their standard package. sobrang kukulit at it’s not suprising that they specialize in casual, fun style videos.
- shierdan pamintuan (video): another newbie which gained immense popularity this year due to his partnership with paul vincent. most of his clients are paul vincent clients also. relatively lower rates compared to other videographers.
- josiah’s catering (caterer)
- clarice avinante of an event to remember (coordinator): not much to say because we didn’t research much about coordinators. but a lot of good things are written about her in the w@w community board.
- cecilio abad (couturier)
- emily uy of sugarbow (cakes)
- madge lejano of makeup by madge (makeup): a crowd favorite even to photographers & videographers… especially her “angels.” 😉
the finalists were presented thru an avp made by buddy gancenia of reality wedding videos. the avps (at least the finalists and the top 5. we didn’t get to see the last one) were superbly done. we didn’t really like buddy gancenia’s style of making wedding videos (he likes to use a lot of interviews) but his style was just right for the award show. kakatuwa nga kasi everytime an avp was to be shown (there was also one made by threelogy but that’s for another part of the program), lahat talagang focused sa screen… nakatayo pa nga kami, eh para kitang-kita namin. even the great jason magbanua had nothing but praises for the avps. galing! 🙂
after the finalists were introduced, nag-txt na si kaye at andun na daw sya at nag-pa-park lang. i fetched her (ako daw sumundo, eh sabi ni selle. hehe) at the entrance. past 9 na ata nun kaya ala na tao sa registration. gusto na nga dumiretso na lang ni kaye, eh pero sabi ko sayang at baka manalo sya sa raffle… atsaka sayang din freebies. buti na lang naka-register pa din. ayaw din kunin pa ni kaye yung loot bag at pag-uwi na lang daw but i insisted na kunin na nya at baka wala na kasi later. afterwards, we proceeded to our table. we invited her to eat kaso, according to her, “kanina pa ako kain ng kain.” pero she did go around to look at the setup (scouting the opposition 😉) at bumalik din agad sa table. tapos kwento-kwento na. then bumalik si karl sa table so i was talking to karl while selle was talking to kaye.
a little while later, dumating c benz at nakita na naka-orange tag kami pero bat d daw kami nakikipag-usap sa mga tao. hehe. pero sabi nga namin, kausap namin kaye & karl. eh tamang-tama, kakilala naman ni karl c benz at na-mention nya kay benz na batchmates kami sa pisay. ang reaction pa nga ni benz kay karl, “pisay ka? eh, d magaling ka?” ehem. 🙂
then kaye talked to benz a little para makilala lang sya. sabi nga ni benz sa kanya, “mingle with the other suppliers.” pero, gaya namin, hindi rin nya sinunod yun. shy daw sya, eh… parang kami. 😆
then came the top 5 avp.
- threelogy
- karl & mimi
- emily uy
- shierdan pamintuan
- paul vincent
we had to explain to kaye how the selection process works and what w@w was all about. feeling nya daw tuloy dapat mas maging matunog sya sa w@w seeing all the w@wies sa party.
side kwento: noong pinalabas ang threelogy, we asked kaye if she knows them.
dyoks: kilala mo sila? (referring to threelogy)
kaye: you know pano ko sila nakilala? i was at a fair in megamall and their booth was directly behind ours. tapos, according to them, may binabantayan na daw silang suspicious looking guy na nasa fair kasi patingin-tingin daw sa mga nakapatong sa mga tables. so that guy went around and went past my booth. maya-maya lang… hawak-hawak na sya ng isa sa threelogy at sabi sa kanya, “ibalik mo ang cellfone… ibalik mo ang cellfone.” and i didn’t even notice na nawala na pala cellfone ko. ang bait nila. sinamahan pa nila ako mag-sulat ng complaint sa ofc.
selle: ay ang bait naman nila…
kaye: yah…
kaye: (napatigil) hmmm… i didn’t think of that…
at nagtawanan na kami. 😆
after that (or was this before? 😀), pinalabas ang product introduction ng w@w desktop calendars… a collection of prenups and postnups by several photographers shown in an avp by threelogy. syempre, tutok na naman mga tao sa screen kasi sunod-sunod na magagandang pictures ang ni-fla-flash, eh.

not one but two desktop calendars were given away at the party. these calendars are limited and they are only sold at the filipinas heritage library (extremely limited copies). next year kaya masama picture namin? 😉
side kwento: after watching the w@w desktop calendar avp, kaye commented that she wanted karl & mimi to be the photographers of her wedding because the pictures they (karl & mimi) take are very natural (which is true). kaya pinakilala naman namin sya kay karl… at nalaman nilang they’ll be working together at a december wedding. 🙂
kaye then had to go but since it was getting late already and we still had work the following day, we decided to go also. before going, nagpaalam muna kami kay fol (at pinakilala na din kaye, of course) then alis na. kaye offered us a ride going out… 🙂
while on the car, kaye noticed that selle is a bit sick so she gave selle medicine that she has been using. you see, kaye easily catches colds… buti na lang daw and she discovered airborn(?), a medicine that she confidently stated as “super effective” kasi pag umaga daw at feeling nya may sipon sya, inom lang sya 1 nun at ok na sya agad. na-oprah pa nga daw yun sa sobrang pagka-effective. yun nga lang, sobrang mahal din daw. a bottle (w/c we think holds around 10 tablets only) costs around 2k. tapos binigyan nya si selle ng ganun-ganun lang. ang bait, no? 🙂 and true to her word, super effective nga yun kasi gumaling agad selle pagka-inom nun. 🙂
kaye dropped us off at katipunan, thanking us for the invitation at the party. it was nice she enjoyed the party… we certainly did. 🙂
.
w@w party aftermath
since we left early, we didn’t know what else happened so we logged on to w@w and we got surprising news:
2006 w@w supplier of the year: paul vincent (photo)
personally, for us, this was a shocker. we didn’t expect him to win. we though it would either be threelogy or karl & mimi. based on outputs, these 2 were better than the others on the top 5. well, i guess, ganun lang talaga kadami ang clients ni paul vincent. 😀 his name will now be aligned with previous winners like:
2003 w@w supplier of the year: alex franco (cake)
2004 w@w supplier of the year: jason magbanua (video)
2005 w@w supplier of the year: veluz reyes (couturier)
good for him.
after the party, we felt bad that we didn’t get to talk to peejay & jon (our w@wie tablemates) so we felt like we should at least send them an email. we searched the board for their names and we went to their wedsite. their wedsite looks familiar. yun pala, ive gone to their wedsite before kasi nag-post si peejay regarding lanie acedillo (our makeup artist), eh curious ako nun so pinuntahan ko wedsite nila. i even replied to her posting kaso totally nalimutan ko na yun. 🙂 compose and send.
shortly after… we received a reply and guess what, hinahanap pala talaga nila kami (at least si selle… hehe) noong party. naghahanap daw cla ng makaka-chika sa party kasi ala naman daw cla kakilala, eh. since natandaan nya daw na nag-reply ako (using selle’s name.
patawa, no? 🙂
ang matindi pa nun, we had so much in common like:
- we’re both Christian couples.
- we’re both shy couples (oh-oh, walang mag-re-react. 😀).
- we’re both having a garden wedding.
- we’re both lanie acedillo clients… and we both booked her at the wedding expo… at parehas d nagsabi sina selle and peejay sa kanilang respective h2b’s (husband-to-be) na gus2 nila c lanie kasi nahihiya cla kasi mahal. hehe
- we both went to josephine’s thinking it was a nice place to hold weddings… only to find out it wasn’t. 😀
- both h2b’s are from pisay… and up diliman… and engineering grads
- at eto ang kicker… we both have the same first holding hands story. naka-post kasi sa wedsite nila ang first holding hands story nila and while we we were reading it, it was like we were reading our own story. bigla nga ako naghanap ng hidden camera at baka nasa tv na pala kami. 😆
ang tindi, no? since we had so much in common, selle and peejay have since been exhanging emails daily. actually, parang nagpapaligsahan sila kung sino mas makakagawa ng mas mahabang email kasi pahaba ng pahaba ang mga reply nila sa isat-isa. hehe. and in each email, we discover even more commonalities with one another. 🙂
.
the bridal fair suprise
since we were searching for an invitations supplier, we decided to drop by the megamall bridal fair that same weekend (besides, bob was there so at the very least we could spend time with him). the before i do bridal fair was a relatively big fair with around 100 or so exhibitors. kaya naman feeling namin, sa dami nun meron naman kami makikitang printer ng invitations. of the numerous exhibitors at the fair there was a total of 1 invitations supplier… at naki-hati pa sya ng booth, ha. 😆 anyway, we weren’t able to talk immediately with that supplier because they were busy entertaining somebody else so we thought we should go around the fair first and then just come back later.
while walking down the aisle and looking at the exhibits bigla na lang may tumawag sa akin… and lo-and-behold it was my sister-in-law, geri… and my brother, bimbo. gulat ako, eh. kaya tinawag ko naman agad si selle, who was at that time talking to flowers of may (inaalok kasi kami, eh na-book na namin sila sa tagaytay, right? 😆) para pakilala sa kanila. (yah, first time nila makita selle. hehe)
bimbo and geri has this wedding business… it started out with invitations and now they have branched out to wedding accessories. it’s a wise move really because there is not much competition when it comes to wedding accessories. kaya naman walang tigil din ang mga prospective clients na napuntal sa booth nila. personalized and hand-made accessories. remember, home and bridal essentials (www.hb-essentials.com), for your bridal needs. 🙂
knowing that we were looking for invitations printers (special printer daw kasi kelangan namin), my brother then accompanied us to the organizer of the event to ask for referrals. they gave us 2 printing companies that specializes in corporate accounts kasi pang-ganun daw dapat kelangan namin. we’ll check them out later.
we then introduced my brother to bob. kwento-kwento sila about website hosting (bob is re-designing his website while my brother is into IT) and one-stop shop recruitment (plano magtayo ng wedding shop ng kapatid ko sa may qc area). afterwards, bumalik na kapatid ko sa booth nila at naiwan kami para makipag-kulitan kina bob and joey (boquiren, the photographer). 😀
spent the next hour or hour-and-half at bob’s booth. dami namin napag-kwentuhan like:
- equipment upgrade. bob is getting the new panasonic vx series camera. sobra nyang gusto yun na despite the steep price tag, he’s still getting it. unlike most videographers that uses the sony fx1 (although jason used to use a canon and he might switch back to it with its new hd camera), bob uses the dvx because it is the only camera that offers 24 fps setting. what is 24 fps? that’s 24 frames per second, the same setting a film camera has. most digital cameras is set at 29.97 (or 30) fps. bob’s work is different from the rest because his outputs have that “grainy”, film-like effect. cinematic.
- accessories. joey and bob found a way to buy accessories from the US with no extra cost (thru joey’s sister). that’s why joey is getting new lights while bob is still choosing between the glidecam (which jason uses for the sweeping shots) or a stabilizer.
- tie-up. joey removed the video coverage from his packages and is solely offering photography. he then will pass clients to bob and vise-versa. this is an increasing trend in the industry nowadays since they realize the clients are more and more being knowledgeable regarding photo & video outputs.
- prenups. joey shared stories of his recent prenup shoot while we showed ours to him. nabilib tuloy. hehe.
kulitan kwento 1:
kulitan kwento 2:
bob: ang tindi nina sir fol, no?
ang kukulit, eh, no? 😆
afterwards, bumalik kami sa booth ng kapatid ko. pinakilala kami sa printade society printers, ang ka-isa-isang invitations supplier sa fair. usap-usap onti kaso natatagalan kami sa leadtime nila na 1 month. nag-isip pa sina bimbo & geri ng pwede pa namin malapitan na printers… they gave a couple more. btw, they also gave us green hair pins (perfect for our motif) for free. 🙂
side kwento: i went to 30 fps videography booth to see if they were giving away cd samplers. i saw that they do have cd samplers but apparently they were selective when it comes to giving out cd samplers. i’m collecting cd samplers and i wanted one so i just stood there pretending to be really interested in their services (nood lang ako dun ng pinapalabas nila sa screen nila). a few moments later, they approached me (hehe. nag-work ang pagpapanggap ko). nag-sign ako sa guestbook nila and i asked for a sampler. at binigyan naman ako. umalis na ako afterwards… hehe. mamaya i-t-txt ko cla na may videographer na kami. 🙂
wedding preparations can be a long and strenuous process. throughout our preparations, we have met new people and more importantly, made new friends. this has made our preparations, a very, very fruitful one.
aha! sikat kami dito a! may kulang ka dyoks. hindi mo na-mention na ang wedding date niyo, birthday ni jon. so sabay tayo nagce-celebrate nun. hehe!
