seven and “O”

ever since i was a child, i have been captivated by sports.  this is quite interesting because i am not an athlete (but i’m no klutz either.  hehe).  simply put, i’m a sports fan.  heck, even when i was once into video games, most of the time i was playing sports video games and nothing else (nabibingi na nga apartmentmates ko sa recurring sports video game commentary, eh.  hehe).  i can’t say i love all kinds of sports (i do not understand the fascination in f1 racing… is that a sport?  hehe) but most sports, i really do… the favorite of which is football (nfl)… and just recently, the sport of mixed-martial arts (ufc).  hehe.  grabe, ang bru-brutal, no?  since these sports are not that popular in the philippines, i only get to talk about it with just a handful of friends.  unfortunately, in the philippines, basketball is the only sport to talk about (at pa-minsan-minsan boxing and/or billiards).

don’t get me wrong, i do enjoy basketball as well.  naglalaro pa nga ako nun, eh… if a team needs a spot-up-shooter… and nothing more.  hahaha.  with our tv’s flooded by pba and nba games, there was a time that i’d really follow both leagues.  i easily picked up the intricacies of the game, so much so that during games, i sometimes find myself ranting on questionable tactics/strategy being employed by certain teams.  hehe.  sama, eh, no?

in sports, i have put this knowledge into use.  minsan-minsan nga lang.  pero, since we had our annual sportsfest here in our company, mas napadalas na.  7 years na may sportsfest dito and in the first 5 years, i’ve done basketball commentary… and i could say, i enjoyed it.  🙂  gusto ko din kasi maging sports commentator, eh… kaya kahit in a small scale, na-realize ko din ang munti kong pangarap.  🙂  the frustrating thing though, in those 5 years, i have witnessed our team (team support) fail to catch the championship.  minsan nga naiinis na talaga ako habang nag-co-commentary.  parati na lang talo kasi.  *sigh*  kaya on the 6th year (last year), dahil na rin sa urging of the players, i gave up the commentary stint to take on coaching.

fast forward to april 6, 2007.  game 2 of the best-of-three championship with our team leading the series 1-0.  we were down by 6 with just around 2 minutes to go.  momentum was on their side and everyone was feeling there will be a third game… except maybe our team.  fueled by energy, intensity, desire and God’s grace, our team took charge from then on to win the game and take our 2nd straight championship.  naks.  🙂

we were 7-0 this year.  undefeated.  a feat no team has yet to do.  what’s our secret?  do we have superior players?  probably not… but we do have the most balanced and most athletic team in the league.  is it because we have team continuity?  in a way… but this year, we lost our best big man (and last year’s mvp), our most bruising forward and one of our most explosive scorers.  do we have the most number of fans?  definitely not… but we probably do have the best fans (thanks to ma’am lalaine and the whole logistics group… yellow shirts, party poppers, energy drinks… kakaiba talaga.  salamat din sa facilities and equipment… mga addict talaga kayo sa basketball.  hehe.  at syempre sa aking ever supportive wife… na minsan ay hindi na makanood sa sobrang kaba… kaya dinadaan na lang sa dasal.  :-)).  so what’s the secret?

hometown

we’ve been working for samsung electro-mechanics for around 7 years (my wife just over 7 years while i’m nearing 8 years). for those who’ve been employed or are currently employed at this company, vacation is a rarity… leave of absence, a useless benefit. we usually work 6 days in a week… at times, 7. heck, lately, i can’t even leave at 5 pm but force to stay at least until 6 pm… all without pay (the downside of being in the managerial position. argggh.). that is why this holy week was a welcome break for us… an opportunity to get away from work (yes!) and make use of this spare time that we have.

this is how our vacation went:
thurs-sat: lucena city (my hometown)
sun: bacoor (selle’s hometown)
mon: samsung (:-? trabaho na naman.)

not much activities were done during our stay at lucena. we just stayed at home… eating, watching dvds, resting, playing… and eating again. ganun naman kasi talaga. we wanted to rest this vacation that’s why we opted for these activities. masaya naman. my mom was there… my sister and her family were there… and 2 of our friends, cel and wengi, were there also. kain, tulog, nood… ang saya! just ask cel and wengi (especially the “kain” part.).

sometime during the stay, the girls (selle, cel & wengi) cooked/baked (or at least watched my mom. :-D)… something they so eagerly want to learn. since i’ve watched my mom bake since i was a kid (:-P), i took our point-and-shoot cam and went around our house and just clicked away. 😉

and since we’re in the midst of studying/commenting our initial artbook layout (malapit na kami matapos, fol… onting-onti na lang. :-D) and obviously inspired by the great photos fol takes (yes, we are regular visitors sa kanyang blog. ;-)), i chose to take pictures of our wedding rings. wedding ring shots are staple shots in wedding albums kaya inisip ko, pano kaya kung ako’y isang wedding photographer… what kind of ring shots will i take? hehe. here are a few. (note to my photographer friends: wala lang akong magawa nito kaya walang asaran, ha.).

of all the ring shots i took, this is my favorite. the garden provides a nice background, the railing frames the rings and the sunlight bounces off the stones creating sa sparkling effect thereby emphasizing the rings even further. tsamba. 😆
