it’s been a while since we had a new issue of our “photoblog.” work has been toooooo taxing lately… and it has been eating away most of our time. so much so that in the rare “free time” that we get, we’re just too exhausted to do anything else but just be at home and rest. this obviously has been going on for quite a while now (see previous blog).
lately though, we did get to squeeze in a little spare time… and we decided to go out just to unwind (actually, we both needed haircuts kaya nagpa-gupit kami. hehe). while my wife, selle, was getting some pampering at david’s, i took the opportunity to surprise her and buy her something. 😉

not 1 but 2 rachael ray cookbooks. 🙂
you see, we both don’t know how to cook. we went into this marriage knowing that. 🙂 would you believe that the first week or so of our marriage, ako pa ang nagluluto? hehe. i guess i was not much of a cook kaya napilitan matuto magluto si selle. hehe. she started with simple stuff… fried stuff. then she started to be more adventurous… deviating from the usual. she did what was necessary to have more variety in our meals. nagtanong sa officemates… tawag sa nanay… aba, kahit sa email, nakakuha ng kung anu-anong recipe. 😉 lifestyle channel’s food network was beginning to be a staple channel on our tv… taking away some of my precious sports program airtime. hehe. all for the goal of knowing more. 🙂
i love my wife. obviously, she loves me too. and seeing her desire and passion into cooking, i had to support that. that’s why i decided to give those cookbooks as a gift… and it doesn’t hurt that i’ll be the recipient of those rachael ray recipes. 😉
one thing common about me and my wife is that we are both passionate. when we set our heart on something, talagang tutok kami. cguro din kasi gus2 namin excellent sa lahat ng bagay. at school, ganun si selle. that’s why she excelled so much in academics (hehe. d gaya ko. tatamad-tamad kasi… pero matalino pa din. hahaha). in case you didn’t know, she was a scholar at mapua while taking up chemical engineering… which she finished in 4.5 years lang naman and ranked 2nd in her class. astig, no?! 🙂 want proof about her passion sa work? commute everyday from cavite to laguna… with overtime and a 6 day (or sometimes 7) work week. samantalang ako, eh 5 minutes away lang sa company. hehe. hindi pa din convinced about her passion? how about this? when she was still fronting our in-house band, she would practice with the band in batangas during weeknights and still go home to cavite and then go to work the following day. take note, wala namang bayad ang company sa banda, ha. ibang klase, no?
passionate. that’s what she is. and it’s no surprise that with this new found liking into cooking, eh ganun din naman sya ka-tutok dito. 🙂

the reaction after opening the “surprise.” maybe someday my wife will be writing her very own cookbook. 😉

fashionably hunting for ingredients. (from top to bottom) 1) first, gotta have meat. 2) second, gotta have spices. 3) lastly, gotta have chocolates? oooops… dessert lang pala yan. 😉

preparing the ingredients. photogenic pala ang vegetables… 🙂

actual cooking. (from top to bottom) 1) one of the first tries at cooking (shot last feb 6. special thanks to our ninang che for the pan and the cooking utensils. also to our dear friend, cinderella, for the stove. :-)) 2) must have veggies in every meal. 3) this one was just a week ago. sarap…! honest. 🙂

as rachael ray would put it, “yumm-o.” 🙂

a sampling of selle’s dishes. not only do they taste great… they look great too. (btw, i love the drinks and viand shot. gotta study lighting though. hehe). another thing, the chopseuy is special because it was cooked in olive oil (or EVOO, extra virgin olive oil, as rachael ray would say).

what is a meal without dessert… and refreshments? 🙂

the very first dish off the rachael ray cookbook. lemoned chicken with buttered herbs and vegetables. gourmet style cooking, anyone? 😉
it might not be obvious but we do love to eat… and my wife is making sure it stays that way. 🙂
this blog made me hungry… how about you? 🙂
til the next blog…
I love Rachael Ray too! And I have been saving up to buy those recipe books! Pahiram na lang ako, haha! Saka patikim na din ng luto… 🙂
jenger,
here’s a suggestion:
1) buy a rachael ray book
2) visit our house
3) cook for us
now wouldn’t that be something? game? 😉
