the dream match?

the match was all hyped-up. the media blitz and marketing was unreal. it was touted as the dream match, a collision between two of the best fighters in our lifetime. a matchup that only happens in video games has become a reality. unfortunately, in the end, it was all hype and nothing else.

for a sports afficionado, the match was a total let down. there were parts during the match i caught myself booing… not because manny was winning but because it was not even a fight. it was as if only one fighter came (manny) while the other didn’t (oscar). what most experts predicted to be a lopsided fight did become one… but it was the other way around. while the whole country is in frenzy due to manny’s victory, i myself seemed perplexed and couldn’t find myself celebrating as much as i want to. no, it’s not that i am not happy that the “pambansang kamao” won, it’s the manner of how he won and the lack of resistance he got.

honestly, as most experts did, i thought oscar had a distinct advantage going into the fight. he was bigger (supposedly). he had the longer reach. he had the perfect weapons against manny, the left jab (to control manny) and the left hook counter (to make manny pay when he goes in). my only question before the fight, and i discussed this with one of my friends, was his age and how will he cope with the weight cut. those questions were answered immediately at the very first round. oscar was sluggish at best. he had no legs. he couldn’t move. his left jab? it wasn’t there. heck, he didn’t even throw it. left hook? nada. oscar was so pathetic that manny could leisurely walk straight at him and he wouldn’t even taste a punch. freddie roach was right, oscar couldn’t pull the trigger anymore… age has crept up to him. meanwhile, oscar’s sluggishness? blame that to the weight cut.

i’m a mixed-martial arts fan and many time it happens that fighters gas out too quickly when they couldn’t hydrate quick enough due to the weight cut. most of the time (not all the time), when a fighter fights not in his normal weight, he will gas. i thought oscar wouldn’t because he was down in weight weeks before the fight… but, obviously, with the weight cut, he got weak. way too weak.

as a result, it was a massacre. oscar became a punching bag. that’s wasted money for those who shelled out hard-earned money to watch it on pay-per-view expecting a competitive fight. it wasn’t even a competition… it became an exhibition of manny’s blazing hand speed and footwork. yes, manny has grown as a fighter. before he was just a slugger who would mindlessly rush a fighter and throw bombs from all directions. now, under the tutelage of freddie roach, he has been molded into one of the best, if not the best, pound-for-pound fighters in the world. hopefully though, next time, he would fight someone who would be willing and able to give him a fight. ricky hatton maybe? (i think, manny will pummel him to bits… even if it was fought in england). floyd mayweather? now that will be a fight… if somebody can convince pretty boy to come out of retirement.

personally though, i’d like manny to fight current title holders. aim for the titles and not the big cash prize. he has enough money already (thanks to this “dream match”), it’s time to collect title belts. it’s good to be a champ in the eyes of the people, but it would be better to be a champ in paper also.

as for oscar? it’s time to retire.

it’s no secret that i love football. now, selle’s loving it too. 🙂

yesterday, i got a text message from my wife telling me that she was watching the mnf game between the saints and the vikings. she then sent a message about reggie bush getting a touchdown. no surprise there, bush is a great athlete. but then selle sent this ecstatic message about another bush touchdown. first, i was so happy that selle is genuinely enjoying this game that i love all by herself. 🙂 secondly, i was intrigued by what bush just did so i asked for a more detailed story. unknowingly, bush was having the game of his life and it’s all happening on the the monday night football stage. punt return after punt return, reggie bush was seemingly unstoppable… quickly turning into the punt returner to watch out for.

first, there was deion sanders of the atlanta hawks/san francisco 49ers/dallas cowboys.

then there was dante hall of the kansas city chiefs.

then there’s david hester of the chicago bears.

now, welcome, reggie bush. enjoy… 🙂

here’s the first punt return touchdown (and the de-cleater of a block) in actual game film.

now, ain’t football great? 😀

sbl champs

https://selleanddyoks.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/sbl-logo_web.jpg

it was almost four months ago when i witnessed my departmentmates steadfastly sweeping and drying a wet basketball court so that they can play basketball against newly-hired employees. our company’s sportsfest has just concluded back then and there they were determined to play some ball. biruin mo naman, talagang ni-mop nila ang court para lang patulan ang mga neo. 😀 dun ko na-realize that besides these guys, there were still a lot of other guys who want to play basketball but were unable to do so due to the limited slots in the annual sportsfest. it was then that i realize that playing basketball with actual officemates as teammates is an effective teambuilding tool. it was then that support basketball league started…

the following day, i began selling the idea around fellow support group members and, thankfully, they were all open to it. i initially forecasted that four teams will join the mini-tournament but the positive reaction was overwhelming and we ended up with six teams having up to 18 members each. yup… you read that right. 18 players. walang player limit kasi gusto namin bigyan ng chance ang lahat nang gusto maglaro… which is the reason why sbl was created in the first place.

being the coach of the support team, by default, i coached my department, equipment group. to be honest, i was not that confident (unlike when i coach the support team) going into the tournament because i didn’t know the abilities of half of the team. but i was confident nonetheless because i had a system and i had a few players (geri, cesar and radie) who knew the system very, very well. para makilala ko yung ibang players, i planned to play every single one of them during the eliminations. this helped me establish my player rotation… something that i put prime importance in my system.

and everything went according to plan. we swept through the elimination stage… notwithstanding the hiccup of a loss to logistics on a no-bearing game. 😀 going into the playoffs, i already knew my players… and i already knew the competition. i have a solid rotation, the players have grasped the system and i was extremely confident we will win it all.

we knocked off ps warehouse during the semis but suffered a casualty in the process. paul, our tallest guy and a key member of the rotation, went down with a sprained ankle making him unavailable for the finals. that instantly made our road to the championship a little bit tougher… a little bit bumpier.

with paul out, i had to change the player rotation but the game plan remained intact. the plan was simple: use our speed and depth. run as often as possible. maintain fresh legs on the court through frequent substitutions. disrupt their halfcourt offense by applying pressure defense. yes, the plan was simple… but the game wasn’t that simple.

logistics lived up to the hype of being pre-tournament favorites and gave us a fight during the finals. in a classic size vs speed matchup, the game was tight throughout. employing our game plan to the hilt, we managed to hold a slim lead going into the 4th quarter. as expected, logistics made a strong push midway through the final quarter to grab the lead and even threatened to pull away. inserting back my starters, our team slowly chipped at their lead until we eventually tied the game on a radie genteroy steal leading to a breakaway layup. it was our game from there on as not only did we have momentum, logistics was suffering from fatigue also. buti na rin lang kasi d nila na-capitalize yung mga missed free throws namin during the last minute. whew. 🙂

the buzzer soon ended and, despite being short-handed, we got the 1st ever sbl trophy. 🙂

this team was unique and was loaded. we had geri, the best point guard in the history of semphil basketball. he’s big for his position yet pushes the tempo; scores yet passes really well; and plays sticky defense. if semphil had a draft, i’d pick him number 1 overall.

then we had cesar, the perfect weapon for my system. ultra-fast; a finisher and a sniper; and doesn’t tire at all.

we also had the aforementioned paul, our third guard in a size of a center. knows the game extremely well; exceptional passing ability; and fits like a glove in our trapping defense.

speaking of defense, there’s radie, the known defensive stopper, and then there’s toks, the unknown defensive stopper. they are there to prevent points but they’re sneaky on the offensive side and can put up points too.

then we had our trio of big men: jhay, garry and dhelle. jhay’s a rebounding monster and a shot-blocker to boot. garry and dhelle are veterans and act like immovable walls… plus their mid-range jump shots are money.

we also have a trip of guards: johnver, allan and mike. johnver is a complete package: he can score, he can pass and he can steal the ball. allan is the proto-typical wing man: deadly from the outside and slashes to the basket. mike is a veteran combo guard who does what is needed to help the team.

then there are the role players: jeff, rj and sonny are lengthy forwards; christian, aids, terence and sir charles are bulky big men; biboy and norman are pesky guards.

twenty players. twenty champions. 🙂

now for some post-season awards:

duty foul award: biboy
perennial crowd favorite/best low-post move award: sonny
physical-an award: sir charles
nice pass award: paul
save the best for last award: norman
d ko alam pano ko ipapasok sa support team award: johnver
mabuhay miles award: allan
one game only award: terence

the uaap cheerdance competition is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, event in the uaap calendar. each year, the araneta coliseum is packed to the rafters as students and alumni for all eight universities come in throves to shout, cheer and support their respective cheering squads. i didn’t know this was such a big event until i have already graduated (ang lousy no? 😆) and got an opportunity to watch the event live. the energy was so dense throughout the competition. sobrang nakaka-pump ng adrenalin especially when your alma matter is performing. i have yet to watch the event live since then but i still remember how it felt and it still gives me an adrenalin surge every time i think about it.

this past weekend, up once again won the competition and successfully defended their championship. always known for their creativity and innovativeness, up wowed the judges and the crowd with their ethnic inspired performance. sure it wasn’t a clean performance as some detractors point out but the level of difficulty and creativity more than made up for the minor slipups. i especially liked the peek-a-boo, magic effect they introduced this year with the maroon and green banners. 🙂

congratulations, guys. lupit talaga ng up. 🙂

“not tonight.”

those were the exact words that came out of kobe bryant as he was trash-talking with courtside celtics fans during the first quarter of game 6 of the 2008 nba finals. that was probably what the nba experts were thinking at the very same moment also. you see, entering this finals, practically ALL the nba experts predicted a lakers championship. 9 out of 10 columnists of a prominent sports site predicted the lakers will win. on another site, they put up a multiple choice question for visitors to answer regarding who will win this series and the choices were:

  • lakers in 5 games
  • lakers in 6 games
  • lakers in 7 games
  • celtics in 7 games

utter disrespect for the celtics. we all know now what happened. not only did the celtics win the championship… they destroyed the lakers.

so to the so-called nba experts, to quote kg in his post-game interview, “what you gonna say now?” 🙂

boston-game6b-web.jpg

while they, the experts, were unified in predicting a lakers win, we, the samsung (and ex-samsung) nba fanatics, were in agreement as well… in agreement that the celtics will be the champs. sure, i was kinda off with my playoff predictions but i was spot on with my finals prediction: celtics in six (or quite possibly in five). 🙂

boston-game6c-web.jpg

let’s review what the “experts” said would be the keys that made them decide it would be an easy lakers victory:

1) the lakers offense is better than the celtics defense. first of all, that ain’t true. secondly, the lakers will need to play defense too… and their defense is porous. if leon powe can dribble almost the length of the court for an uncontested two-handed jam off a baseline throw-in… that’s not how you play defense. remember, in sports, offense wins games but defense wins championships.

2) the lakers “bench mob” will overpower the celtics bench. this one i really did not understand. is farmar, vujacic, walton & turiaf really that much better than brown, powe, posey, cassell/house? talent-wise: no. experience-wise: it’s a mismatch.

3) phil jackson will school doc rivers. coaching is not all x and o’s. motivation and encouragement is a big part of it. this is where doc excel at… even more than phil.

4) the lakers has kobe bryant. so? 😆

boston-game6d-web.jpg

even though the series lasted six games, the celtics practically dominated it. the swing game was game 4 where they overcame a 24-point deficit to beat the lakers and go up the series 3-1. that game took the heart out of the lakers. they evaded elimination in game 5 but that only set them up for a date with the very loud celtics fans for game 6… and what a game 6 it turned out to be (at least for celtics fans. 😀).

it was the biggest winning margin in a clincher. 39 points. the lakers showed that they were a team without a heart as they checked out of the game as early as the second quarter. they just gave up and it didn’t help that the celtics were determined to finish them off. records were set that game as the celtics dismantled the lakers.

  • most steals in finals game: 18 (celtics)
  • most 3-pointers in a finals game: 7 (ray allen tied with scottie pippen)
  • most 3-pointers in a series: 22 (ray allen)
  • most games played in the playoffs: 26 (celtics)

it was the perfect culmination to the greatest single-season turnaround in nba history. just last year, the celtics were te lowest-ranked nba team and this year, they’re the champs. incredible. 🙂

what happens next season? will the celtics repeat? will the lakers rebound? who knows? i’ll think about that come november. in the meantime, olympic basketball is just around the corner. that too would be exciting to watch. 😉

the real season begins

nba playoffs start tomorrow and it’s time to make some unsolicited predictions. 😉

let’s start with the east.

celtics (#1) vs hawks (#8 )
i’ve always been a ray allen fan. so wherever he goes, that’s my team. at the start of the season, the experts knew the celtics will be good but they didn’t expect that they would be this good immediately. now they’re picking the celtics to go all the way starting with a first round sweep of the hawks. i’d like to agree with the experts except i don’t think the hawks will go down quite easily as they have predicted. the hawks have a young athletic team and with the late season acquisition of mike bibby, they have quietly become a formidable team. but nonetheless, the celtics have looked determined all season long and i don’t think the 3 hungry superstars kg, pierce and ray allen will allow an upset.
celtics in five games.

pistons (#2) vs 76ers (#7)
i don’t like the pistons. i just don’t. but they’re experienced and they’re really good. the 76ers are really good too (the new ai (iguodala) has blossomed into a star) but inexperienced (with the exception of andre miller). if the 76ers can force turnovers with their defense, they have chance. but i don’t see it.
pistons in five games.

magic (#3) vs raptors (#6)
i love dwight howard… even before the superman slam dunk. 🙂 i want him to be successful. but the raptors are a real threat. that team is loaded with a bunch of shooters. the question is, can the raptors contain turkoglu and howard? if they can, they have a real good chance of an upset. and i think they can (but i hope they won’t 😀)
raptors in six games.

cavs (#4) vs wizards (#5)
again this 2 teams meet at the first round of the playoffs. the question for the cavs is, can they rely solely on lebron james to carry them in each and every game throughout the playoffs. tha cavs are banged up meanwhile the trio of wizards all-stars are ready to go. this is a real tough one but probably is the most enjoyable of all first round matchups. agent zero has been out a long time, i say he makes some noise this playoffs.
wizards in seven games.

now to the west.

lakers (#1) vs nuggets (#8 )
ever since that highway robbery of a trade for paul gasol, the lakers have turned into one of the real contenders in the west. note, not because of kobe (yah, i don’t like him. 😀) but because of gasol. meanwhile, the nuggets are a team full of potential but somehow have not lived up to it… until this past couple of weeks. the nuggets are hot and are full of offensive weapons. logically speaking, i think the lakers will go through but since i don’t want them to succeed 😆, i hope ai and melo explode in this series.
nuggets in seven games.

hornets (#2) vs mavs (#7)
the hornets are this year’s cinderella team. led by superstar point guard chris paul and quiet but effective all star david west, this team is loaded. the mavs on the other hand are picking their stride at the right time after that jason kidd trade. as much a i love jason kidd, i don’t think the mavs have enough to keep up with the hornets.
hornets in six games.

spurs (#3) vs suns (#4)
this is the most pivotal matchup for the whole western conference. i think the winner of this series will go straight into the western finals and, most probably, the nba finals. like the pistons, i do not like the spurs. they’re boring… but they’re effective especially come playoff time. but i can recall last season wherein a cheap shot foul by horry is what made them go past the suns. i think the suns have their number. i think shaq will be a factor. i think amare will have a monster series.
suns in six games.

jazz (#4) vs rockets (#5)
the jazz are a really good offensive team. can they contain t-mac? they should because he’s the only one that could prevent them from moving on.
jazz in five games.

how will the rest of the playoffs go? in the east, i think the critical series there is the 2nd round matchup of the celtics vs the winner of the cavs-wizards series. i think that would be the toughest obstacle for the celtics. in the west, i see a jazz vs suns finals and that is a toss up.

the nba champions for this year will be the celtics. 😀

this year’s mvp should be chris paul. please do not let it be kobe. 🙂

of course i can be absolutely wrong but these are predictions and i’m just basing it on gut feel. 😀

what do you think? discuss. 😉

a super superbowl

superbowl42_brady_580-web.jpg

now that’s why i LOVE this game!

unlike most of the so-called experts, i knew the giants had a chance. if they could only control the clock (which they did in the first half) and put constant pressure on brady (which they did the whole game), they could win this one… and they did! woohoo! 😀

super bowl sunday (or monday here in our country) has traditionally been a stay-at-home-and-watch-the-game day for me. back in college, i was guaranteed to be absent to my classes when super bowl was on. when i started working, i took a leave of absence. 🙂 unfortunately, those days of being able to exercise the benefit of leaves are far gone therefore i haven’t been able to catch the games live for the past couple of years. 😦

what’s the big deal in catching the game live when i can always watch the replay? one simple reason, it’s almost impossible not to receive news of the outcome of the game before i could watch the replay. that removes the excitement of watching the game. i have tried all tactics to avoid getting news but somehow, someway, the news still gets to me… and last year was the most classic one. 😉

anyway, i love defense when it comes to football. i love sacks, punishing tackles and interceptions. like i said above, the giants needed to bring the heat on brady or else they had no chance.

superbowl42_sack-web.jpg

and they brought pressure… all game long. the ends, strahan and umenyiora, were speed rushing pass the tackles and brady couldn’t simply step up the pocket, which he effectively does when pressured, because my player-to-watch for the game, justin tuck, delivered big-time. 2 sacks. 1 forced fumble. 6 or 7 tackles. how’s that for a stat line? 🙂

but as punishing as the defense was, the patriots still managed to get the lead with 2 plus minutes to go. no, a field goal wouldn’t help… the giants needed a touchdown.

eli then orchestrated one of the most memorable drives in super bowl. several times during that drive, the game was seemingly over. the strong pass by eli which asante samuel almost intercepted. the 4th-and-1 near midfield… and, of course, the play that will be replayed time-and-time again…

superbowl42_tyree-web.jpg

eli was sacked… or should’ve been sacked. hands were on his jersey and literally tugging it off. but he wouldn’t go down. eli escaped the pocket… and then threw a high pass to david tyree, the giants 4th receiver. he caught it… then was immediately tackled which should’ve jarred the ball loose but tyree, pinned the ball to his helmet! (would you believe that?) and kept possession of the ball. a few plays later, the giants scored. touchdown giants. 😀

congratulations giants for beating all the odds and silencing the experts. you proved once again that in football, defense rules. 🙂

still undefeated

it was a super weekend for sports fanatics. marquee matchups in different arenas and different sports disciplines. reputations were challenged and undefeated records were on the line but when the smoke cleared after all the hostilities, they remained standing with hands up in the air… clearly victorious.

mayweather3_web.jpghuerta3_web.jpg
(photos courtesy of msn.foxsports.com and ufc.com)

honestly, for me, boxing has lost its appeal. too many questionable judges’ decisions coupled with too many uneven matchups led the sport to a downward spiral. add to that the rising popularity of mixed martial arts and sports fans began shifting from boxing to mma. this was actually a good thing for boxing because promoters began putting up exciting fights in order to save the sport hence, the resurgence of boxing.

it was dubbed as undefeated. two fighters with unblemished records going head-on. ricky hatton vs floyd mayweather jr. hitman vs pretty boy. england vs usa. it had the makings for an explosive fight.

i have always been a mayweather fan. his skills are way above everybody else. he is not the most powerful puncher but his accuracy, quickness and smarts are second to none. i didn’t know much about hatton but with an unbeaten record for more than 40 fights, he must be really good. kaya naman noong nakita namin si hatton entering the ring, with his stern look and solid physique (sabi ko nga kay selle, “he looks scary.” 😀), i knew mayweather is in for a fight.

right on the onset, it was obvious how hatton wanted the fight to be… rough and lots of inside fighting. that was a smart tactic because it would negate mayweather’s definite reach advantage and evasiveness. the problem is, despite being pinned on the ropes, mayweather was still too difficult to hit. nakakatawa nga ang mga abs-cbn commentators because they were all obviously pro-hatton (or anti-mayweather 😀) as they kept on commenting how good hatton is despite being unable to mount a serious offensive. this mugging, pushing, shoving trend continued until the middle rounds. by that time, mayweather started to dance around and launch his seemingly laser-guided punches unto hatton’s head and body. grabe talaga ang bilis. by this time, the abs-cbn commentators finally realized to give up the biased commentary 😛 and started to praise mayweather’s skill set.

and then it happened. sidestep + left hook counter. bam! game over. (actually, nakatayo pa si hatton pero it was obvious na tapos na laban).

mayweather1_web.jpgmayweather4_wide_web.jpg
(photos courtesy of msn.foxsports.com)
(left) the hitman firing blanks at the “unhittable” mayweather
(right) even in close quarters, mayweather had the advantage

it was also a big night for ufc fans last december 8 (dec 9 dito sa pinas) with the finale of the ultimate fighter season 6. top-billing the finale was a lightweight matchup of two of our favorite fighters, roger huerta vs clay guida. huerta has been undefeated in the octagon (although he has 1 loss outside of the ufc) and has been very busy this 2007 with four straight wins prior to this fight with guida. unfortunately, this fight was not shown on local tv hence, we had to rely on the internet for the results.

huerta wins via submission. just by reading the report, how we wish that the fight had been shown here. as expected, it was action packed. huerta apparently lost the first two rounds to guida but totally dominated the third round leading to the tapout.

we expect big things for huerta in 2008. a lightweight championship bout perhaps? 🙂

huerta2_web.jpghuerta1_web.jpg
(photos courtesy of ufc.com)
(left) huerta letting a left high kick fly
(right) the finishing rear-naked choke for the win

lastly, in the sport of football, the new england patriots remained undefeated for the season. they are now just three games away from having a perfect season. i like their coach, bill belichick. i think he is really smart. randy moss is a freak-of-an-athlete. their defense has always been good. but this year, i can’t find myself rooting for this team. maybe because they are just too good. i don’t know. i thought their streak would end last week against the ravens and that vicious defense. but it didn’t. the steelers could’ve ended it this week… but they made a major mistake even before the game started. nag-yabang sila. you don’t do that to a reeling team. that only woke the patriots up and made them angry. that only gave added motivation to an already very good team. kawawang steelers tuloy. 🙂

dominance in sports is something to revel and applaud at. much props to mayweather, huerta (both of whom we really, really like 🙂) and to the patriots as well. 🙂

ouch.

gomez-crying-2.jpg

how cruel can a sport be?

yesterday, we were glued to our tv as we watched and cheered on our fellow filipino, roberto gomez, in the finals of the 2007 world pool championships. our country has been known for producing champions in the past and it was like another one was in the making.

this particular finals match was truly nerve-wracking. i have watched sports plenty of times but this one ranks way up there when it comes to sheer suspense and drama. starting from rack 23 (with the score 12-11 in favor of daryl peach), each rack was tightly contested. except for a couple runouts by peach, each player would have an opportunity to go to the table to play a shot. that is unusual in a finals match. more so, in a winner’s break format. their top-notch skills was showcased during safety play exchanges as both players would amazingly escape each trapped situation time after time. on the other hand, the pressure was too intense that both players would in turn uncharacteristically miss makeable shots.

the critical rack was the 31st rack with the match tied at 15 apiece (this was a race to 17, btw). peach was breaking and had momentum with a 3-rack win streak. after making the 1 ball at the break, he was left with a cross-table bank shot for the 2 ball which he missed. this seemingly gave gomez the chance to clear the table but he blew making the 5-ball (never nakuha ni gomez ang pulso nya buong match kaya bawat long shot nya was really suspense-filled). peach then apparently was about to runout the table but he overshot the position for the 8-ball which led to a disastrous position on the 9-ball. again, peach was left with a cross-table bank shot for the 9… which he missed. the crowd grew wild (kasama na ako dun 😆) as gomez was given another chance. pero hindi madali ang tira contrary to what reports would say. the pressure was just too much as gomez missed the 9… and consequently the rack. afterwards, he’d never get a chance to get to the table again.

it was so painful to see the pendulum quickly swing from the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat on that shot on the 9-ball. i really feel bad for gomez and could feel the pain due to the lost opportunity (yah, ramdam ko talaga. tanong nyo pa selle. 😀). but after all the emotions have died down (sabi ko naman sa inyo affected ako, eh. 😆), sabi ko nga kay selle, it just wasn’t meant to be. i felt like God had to make that happen because, maybe, He had greater things in store for gomez. maybe, gomez needed more toughening up for future events. who knows? but definitely there’s a reason.

gomez_small.jpg

gomez has nothing to be ashamed of but everything to be proud of. sa lahat ng magagaling na players sa pinas, sya lang ang natira. also, he became the first unseeded player to reach the finals. and with that, we congratulate you, roberto gomez. you made us proud. 🙂

staying on the world pool championships, i saw a headline on the newspaper yesterday regarding a controversial foul shot being called on django bustamante causing him to be eliminated. intrigued since we never saw that match, i googled it on the web and got this video.

foul or no foul? man, this is tough.

on first glance of the replay, it does look like the cue ball touched the 9-ball first. but, after numerous camera angles were shown, it’s not a certainty anymore. ang dami kasing factors eh. it would’ve been more conclusive if they zoomed in on the overhead shot but they didn’t. the statement of the commentators arguing that, “the 9-ball moved first…” is inconclusive because the 3-ball was just nicked while the 9-ball was hit head on therefore the 9-ball will apparently move first. zooming in to see the slightest movement would’ve answered the question. if this was the nfl, that wouldn’t be ruled a foul because, in the nfl, for a rule to be overturned using replay footages there must be conclusive evidence. unfortunately, this wasn’t the nfl.

anyway, another tough one for django especially since he was leading 10-9 and he would’ve won the match on that 9-ball.

ouch.
